Outdoor Skills

Learning outdoor skills is an important part of Worle Youth Group’s programme. We have the facilities and equipment, and our leaders have training and experience to run outdoor activities in a fun and safe way.

Bushcraft Area

We have access to a bushcraft area as part of our regular weekly meeting place. This includes a fire circle, areas for shelter building, and space for work in small groups.

Fire Lighting

Who doesn’t love sitting around a good campfire with their friends? Also, smores…

Learning how to light a fire with a fire-steel. It’s like rubbing sticks together, but the sticks are metal and generate loads of sparks.

Kelly kettles are an efficient way to boil water and the fire is inside the water. Don’t believe us? Come and find out!

Cooking

Outdoor cooking can include toasting marshmallows over the fire to make smores, cooking dampers, camp donuts, or pitta pizzas. Hot chocolate can be made with water from Kelly Kettles. We also cook on gas appliances, for example making Chicken Risotto.

We cook at camp, and sometimes we cook on a Friday night. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.

More Outdoor Activities

We have also found time to:

  • Learn navigation skills
  • Build shelters
  • Whittle with knives
  • Practice our pioneering
